Join us for the 5th Annual Networking Breakfast at The MedTech Conference in Boston on October 25, 2022. The MedTech Color Annual Networking Breakfast is our marquee event to drive our core pillar of building a robust and diverse network of mentors and sponsors who champion thought leadership and innovative clinical advancement. This event is held in conjunction with The MedTech Conference, the largest medical device conference in the world, sponsored by AdvaMed. Each year we bring together diverse leaders within the industry to strengthen this community and discuss ways to continue to increase representation and drive thought leadership. The event includes a keynote speaker, breakout networking rooms led by sponsor organizations, and a delicious breakfast.

MedTech Color is delighted to announce the 2023 Keynote Speaker: LaMont Bryant, Head, Regulatory Affairs, Ethicon; and Head, Gross Profit Initiatives, Johnson & Johnson MedTech Research & Development.
Dr. Bryant has been recognized for his contributions to the sciences and global Public Health. He’s the recipient of numerous accolades and honors for his dedication to the professional field and his continuous work in the community. Recently, he served on the Board of Directors of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health, North Carolina Central University, College of Arts & Sciences, and the Yale University School of Medicine Executive Roundtable on Digital, Diversity, and Health.

For Students: Olympus Tour and Career Discussion
Students attending the Networking Breakfast are invited to participate in a tour of the new, state-of-the-art Olympus Corporation of the Americas facility. The Tour will take place on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.
Transportation is included and will depart from the Boston Convention Center at 1:00 pm EST. Box lunches will be provided. Fill out this survey to reserve your spot on the Tour! The Tour will begin with a short HR Presentation: Opportunities for the emerging MedTech professional, where Talent Acquisition and D&I will discuss opportunities available at Olympus for emerging MedTech professionals, what hiring managers are looking for in new recruits, and the role that Diversity and Inclusion plays is hiring and retaining new talent. There will then be a panel discussion with diverse Olympus professionals about their career paths and current Olympus role. Panelists will include: Manish Singh, BUVP Sales & Marketing; Swarna Alcorn, BUVP Respiratory, Commercial Opps (or another female leader); Edwin Encarnacion, Test Engineering Manager R&D; and Holly Nguyen, Software Engineer II, R&D. Panelists who are of a hiring level can also discuss what they feel are ideal attributes for candidates in their areas and there will be time for students to ask questions.
Students will then be broken into three groups and will rotate through three different 30-minute sessions as follows:
- Breakout #1: OR Innovation Center Tour- A day in the Life in the OR – Patient & Clinical Workflow
- Breakout #2: TEC Lab Tour: 4 Station Hands-on set-up
- Breakout #3: Tour Customer Solutions R&D V&V Lab, Process Imaging
After the Tour (4:00-4:30 or 5:00 pm), we will hold a networking session with marketing, sales, R&D, emerging professionals, and leaders in the Olympus Café along with a fall-themed snack. Kwame Ulmer
Kwame Ulmer is the Founder and Executive Director of MedTech Color. Kwame is also a venture partner at Wavemaker Three-Sixty Health – the leading Southern-California based, early stage venture capital firm (Seed and Series A) focused on the healthcare industry. He participates in all aspects of fund management (e.g. deal sourcing, diligence, negotiation and advising portfolio company management teams). Kwame brings nearly twenty years of experience evaluating medical technologies in the government and private sector, and serving in senior operating roles at medical device companies. He has personally evaluated more than 1,000 medical technologies in his career. Kwame spent 12 years at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in progressive leadership roles, including Deputy Director and Branch Chief. He also served as Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance at Implant Direct, a Danaher Corporation operating company. He is a member of the Executive Committee of Tech Coast Angels (LA), the world’s largest angel investing network. Kwame earned his B.S. in Physics from Lincoln University, and has two Masters degrees from the University of Virginia, in Materials Engineering and Business Administration.

LaMont Bryant, PhD
P. LaMont Bryant is the Worldwide Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, Johnson & Johnson/Ethicon, Inc. and Enterprise Co-Chair for J&J’s African Ancestry Leadership Council. LaMont serves on the Ethicon, Inc. Leadership Team, MedTech Regulatory Affairs Leadership Team, and the MedTech Supply Chain Leadership Team. In his immediate past role, Dr. Bryant was the Senior Director, Global Regulatory Affairs, Management Board member, for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. (McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division) where he had Regulatory Affairs responsibility for the company’s over-the-counter (OTC) drug portfolio. LaMont was also responsible for the Consumer Sector’s OTC Medical Devices portfolio, including device connected ecosystems and software LaMont has also held global regulatory responsibility for strategic development and portfolio expansion of biologics, medical devices, and combination products in Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) Ethicon Biosurgery Division. LaMont initially joined J&J within the company’s Ethicon Endo-Surgery platform in 2007 as Manager, Regulatory Affairs, where he was responsible for creating and leading the platform’s Food & Drug Administration Advisory Committee Preparation Program. He also held the position of Product Director, Global Strategic Marketing where he was responsible for ideation and innovation for Advanced Energy surgical products.

Vernessa Pollard
Vernessa T. Pollard is co-leader of McDermott Will & Emery’s FDA practice. She provides strategic business and regulatory advice to FDA-regulated companies on complex issues related to the development, manufacture, marketing, post-market safety and compliance for FDA-regulated products, including drugs, medical devices and digital health technology. Vernessa counsels companies on product development and premarket strategy, good manufacturing practice and quality system requirements, advertising and promotion, adverse event reporting, FDA warning letters, FDA inspections, recalls, import detentions, corporate compliance programs and regulatory due diligence in mergers and acquisitions. Vernessa is a former Associate Chief Counsel for Enforcement in FDA’s Office of Chief Counsel. She received the LMG Life Sciences, Regulatory Attorney of the Year: FDA Medical Devices, 2018 and has been recognized in numerous Law and Life Sciences publications, including Chambers USA 2014 to 2018, Healthcare: Pharmaceutical/Medical Products Regulatory (District of Columbia). Vernessa received her B.A. in Communications from Howard University and her Juris Doctor from Temple University School of Law.
